"The Mega Diaper Babies" is an episode of Rugrats from Season 3.

Synopsis

The Rugrats play-act "The Mega Hyper-Heroes" as Angelica commandeers their action figures. Each of the Rugrats takes on a different super power as they go on their adventures. - Description from Klasky Csupo

Plot

The babies and Angelica are watching the Mega Hyper Heroes, a Captain Planet type television show. Two of the heroes are being chased by Metallitron, a giant robot that is firing lasers at them. Johnny, one of them, states that if the others were here they could put their rings together and become the Mega Hyper Heroes, as the rings only work when all four of them are together. They run into a cave and are reunited with the other two who were off saving the rain forests. They put their rings together and become the Mega Hyper Heroes; Changeling, with the power to change into any animal; Flamo, with the ability to ignite himself with fire; Miss Invisible, with the ability to turn invisible; and the Bolt, with the strength of two really strong men.

They prepare to battle Metallitron but she has already found them. She punches Changeling into a wall causing him to turn into a cobra which she uses to tie up the others. The announcer asks if this is the end for the heroes and to tune in next week to find out. Angelica turns the TV off before the announcer finishes.

Angelica states that Metallitron is her favorite character. Tommy states that she is evil and takes what isn't hers, such as the world's oxygen supply. Angelica does the same and snatches the babies Mega Hyper Hero action figures and runs off. Tommy wants to get them back, but the others don't think that they can. Tommy says that the real Mega Hyper Heroes could and they can become them. The others wonder how since they don't have super powers, muscles, a T.V. show, and most importantly, magic rings. However, Tommy says that they do have their teething rings. Putting them together they become the Mega Diaper Babies, young superheroes with incredible power.

Tommy becomes Changing Baby (capable of turning into animals), Phil becomes Spitball Boy (who can shoot out machine gun like spitballs from a spitball gun), Lil becomes Dotted Line Girl (who’s a dotted line), and Chuckie becomes Stinky (who smells as strong as two babies). Chuckie, however, doesn't want to be Stinky, but Tommy refutes his statement by claiming that it's an honor to be the stronger hero.

The babies take off towards Angelitron's evil lair to rescue the heroes. Angelitron is watching on her security monitor T.V. and orders Cynthiatron to unleash her secret weapon, call out the guards and warriors, and get her more snacks. As the babies are nearing, Angelitron shows up and unleashes the Robo-Buster, a deadly robot and the secret weapon that Angelitron mentioned earlier. Changing Baby becomes an octopus and attempts to fight it, but he’s no match for the robot's abilities. Spitball Boy then unleashes a barrage of spitballs that have no effect until he runs out. Dotted Line Girl steps up to help and manages to deactivate it.

It's revealed that the Robo-Buster was really a vacuum cleaner and Lil really tripped the switch. Chuckie wants to play something else, but Tommy says they got to save the heroes and they head on.

They arrive at Angelitron's mountain hideout (which is the stairs in the real world). Phil notes how high the mountains are for climbing, and Changing Baby turns into a spider and they start climbing up the web rope. Angelitron unleashes her army of flying Dummi Bear warriors at the babies. Spitball Boy attempts to hold them off but his spitballs have no effect so they are forced to retreat. In the real world, it's revealed that Angelica is merely tossing stuffed animals at them.

Chuckie again wants to play something else and Phil and Lil are forced to agree with him. Angered, Tommy states that the Mega Hyper Heroes never gave up when the Earth needed them and neither should they. Phil and Lil agree to go on, reluctantly Chuckie agrees as well but angrily asks why he has to be Stinky.

Angelitron meanwhile has the Mega Hyper Heroes trapped in an anti-energy force field. Changeling says that she'll never get away with this. Angelitron tells him to keep silent even though she's talking to a doll.

The babies are wondering how to get past Angelitron's robot guards, who are armed with laser guns. Dotted Line Girl volunteers to fly up in her ship. She gets past the guards and, just as she is about to reach the heroes, Angelitron stops her. Dotted Line Girl wonders how she could see her when she's just a dotted line. Angelitron points out that any idiot can see a dotted line. Before Angelitron can kill her, Changing Baby (as a rhino) smashes through the wall with the others behind him. Reunited, they state that they are the Mega Diaper Babies, with Stinky being rather enthusiastic this time around!

Unimpressed, Angelitron reveals her abilities and unleashes various weapons from her body, including a flamethrower and plasma laser. Dotted Line Girl attempts to battle her with her ship, but Angelitron hurls it into a wall then destroys it with the flamethrower, causing it to go up in flames (which Angelitron states is "cool"). Spitball Boy then fires three spitballs at her, but she vaporizes them with her laser. Changing Baby turns into a giant bear to fight her, but she easily knocks him aside. Just as she is about to finish them off, she smells something horrible: Stinky. He unleashes his horrible smell which makes Angelitron unable to breathe and explodes.

With the enemy defeated, the babies free the heroes. Changeling thanks the babies, but Changing Baby tells him there's no time for that because they have to reclaim the world's supply of oxygen from Metallitron. Miss Invisible agrees and tells him they have to leave. Changeling turns into an eagle and takes off with Flamo holding on while Miss Invisible and the Bolt take off in her ship. They say farewell to the babies as they head off to save the oxygen.

The announcer from the show then states that thanks to a little help from the babies the day is once again saved thanks to the Mega Hyper Heroes. Meanwhile, a now massive Angelitron stands over Tommy's house and laughs maniacally.

Goofs

• Considering she is a robot, and that most robots can't smell, how can Angelitron smell?
• The Bolt's skin color changes from blue, to peach, and back to blue again throughout the episode.

Trivia

• This is one of the more action-oriented episodes of the series.
• After Angelitron exploded, you can see a inner robot face with empty eye sockets and a speaker in the mouth area. The endo-skeleton's face can't fit the huge face of her.
• The Mega Hyper-Heroes are based loosely on Marvel Comics Fantastic Four and Captain Planet, while their show is based on the 1990-1996 animated cartoon of the same name, produced by Turner Entertainment in association with DiC and Hanna-Barbera. While the Bolt fills the spot for Fantastic 4's The Thing, his design is mostly based off of the Hulk.
• This is one of the episodes where Tommy and the babies stand up to Angelica by confronting Angelica.
• Moral: Don’t be afraid to defend yourself and your friends if you are being bullied.
