Character Mentioned[]

Synopsis[]

Inspired by a science fiction film, the Rugrats shrink down and enter Chuckie's body to retrieve a watermelon seed he accidentally swallowed before it starts to grow inside him.

- Description from Klasky Csupo

Plot[]

The babies are munching on watermelon when Grandpa Lou walks by them.  He warns them not to eat any of the seeds, claiming they'll have a watermelon grow in their stomach if they do. Grandpa Lou gives Chuckie a playful slap on the back as he tells them this. Chuckie swallows a mouthful of watermelon and looks horrified.

Later, Chuckie tells his friends that he swallowed a seed. They worry Chuckie is going to explode because of this, since watermelon is so big, and Chuckie is small. Meanwhile, the grown-ups are watching a science-fiction movie where a team of scientists have discovered a miniaturized atomic bomb in the stomach of the president. They then decide to use a laser beam to shrink themselves down and try to remove the device. Inspired by this, the babies decide to do the same thing. In the movie, one of the scientists' monologues to himself that instead of removing the atom bomb, he will detonate it.

The babies plus Angelica (who, unknown to the other babies, will instead attempt to make the seed grow, like the evil scientist in the movie) try to shrink themselves using a light, and it appears they are successful. They go inside Chuckie in search of the seed. They travel the blood stream and pass through Chuckie's heart before finding his (lunchbox) stomach. Here, Angelica reveals her true plan, and waters the seed with a watering can, so the seed can grow. The seed sprouts and rapidly grows. Angelica is happy about this, until Tommy points out Angelica is still inside Chuckie, and he'll explode with her and the babies inside. She never realized that, and they attempt to flee Chuckie's stomach just as the watermelon grows large enough to make it explode.

Chuckie, curled up asleep on Tommy's floor, twitches, burps and the seed pops out of his mouth. Chuckie is happy and says they succeeded after all. Tommy says they haven't actually gone inside him yet, and they only turned on "the shrink light" a moment ago; revealing that Chuckie had a dream.

Spike comes along and licks up the seed. Angelica asks if any of them has ever been inside a dog before.

Trivia[]

  • Angelica's swimsuit is the same as the one from "Beach Blanket Babies", but this time, she uses swimming gear: a snorkel mask and a pair of flippers.
  • This episode is based on the 1966 Sci-Fi movie classic Fantastic Voyage.
  • Watermelon seeds can't grow in your stomach, as they would immediately digest before getting the chance; they can only grow in dirt or sand with water.
  • Moreover, it would take at least 70 days for a watermelon to fully grow.
  • Tommy, Phil, and Lil attempt to get Chuckie to throw up by singing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" (since that was the song his father was singing when Chuckie got carsick), and after Chuckie cuts them off, the "E-I-E-I-O" part is heard instrumentally.
