Synopsis[]
After being sent to her room for ruining Drew's office, Angelica runs away-- all the way to Tommy's house. - Description from Klasky Csupo
Plot[]
Angelica is caught playing in Drew's home office - it's a huge mess. Angelica is making paper dolls out of fax machine paper, the fax machine is broken, the printer is jammed with printer paper and there's graffiti on the walls.
Drew opens the door, and he is furious with her. An infuriated Drew scolds Angelica about playing in his home office and the importance of his work papers. Angelica tries to apologize and promises that she will never do it again, but Drew declines her apology this time, saying that she's not being sincere, and he tells her that she's in big trouble now. Angelica tries to sweet-talk her way out of trouble, but Drew does not fall for it and sends her to her bedroom as punishment. He goes to the living room and tells Charlotte that he has finally disciplined Angelica and thinks she will handle it well. Angelica is furious with herself and throwing a temper tantrum inside her bedroom, screaming that it's not fair. When she calms down slightly, Angelica decides to run away, thinking that her parents will be sorry that they ever punished her. Packing the "essentials", Angelica sneaks out of the house, without her parents looking or knowing (Drew is busy cleaning up his home office and Charlotte is on a phone call) and drives off in her electric toy car.
Angelica drives to Tommy's house and hides in his backyard, believing that her parents are worried about her. When the babies discover Angelica behind the bushes, she explains that she ran away from home. Tommy asks if her parents wouldn't be worried about her and Angelica tells them yes; she ran away to teach them a lesson and hopes they will never punish her again. She demands they don't tell any of the grownups where she is. When they agree not to do so, she says she feels hungry and asks for cookies. The babies leave and soon return to Angelica with armfuls of cookies. Angelica scarfs them down like a wild animal and asks if Didi made them. When Tommy says no, Angelica asks where they came from. Tommy says they are from the "box with the picture of a doggie on it." When Angelica asks if the box was by Spike's bowl and Tommy confirms it was, she spits out the last mouthful and shouts that they gave her dog biscuits. Phil and Lil don't understand what the problem is, because they eat them all the time. Angelica sends them off for real cookies, potato chips, and pork rinds.
Back at the other Pickles' residence, Drew tells Charlotte that he's glad Angelica is taking her punishment quietly and maturely, unaware that Angelica has run away. Because of this, he says he's going to go to Didi and Stu's to spend some time with them for a while. Charlotte heads to Angelica's room to check on her, but before she can do so, she gets distracted by another phone call.
In Tommy's backyard, Angelica is eating all the junk food the babies brought out. They want her to share, but Angelica refuses and tells them to go eat the dog biscuits they like so much. Phil explains that they can't because she ate them all.
Moments later, rain starts to fall, so the babies go back inside. Angelica doesn't go with them, because she doesn't want the grownups to see her; if they do, then her running away will be "ruined"; not wanting to sit out in the rain, she kicks Spike out of his doghouse and moves in with all her stuff. Angelica watches Gilligan's Island on the portable TV she brought along, but it suddenly goes out.
With nothing to watch, Angelica begins to have doubts about running away. She looks towards the house, still believing that her parents are really worried. Angelica is surprised to see Drew at the kitchen table with Didi and Stu. She moves closer to find out what they're talking about. Drew says it's nice to get away from the responsibilities of parenting. Drew is, of course, referring to getting out of his own house for a few hours, but Angelica thinks he means he's happy she ran away.
As she has realized what she has done, Angelica bursts into the kitchen in tears and apologizes for being bad and running away; she says she'll never be bad again and begs Drew to take her back home. Drew is surprised and confused to see her there since he thought that Angelica was still in her room. He is, however, glad that she learned her lesson, and he accepts her apology this time. He adds that he loves her, no matter what she does. Drew then asks if he can borrow Didi and Stu's fax machine so he can call Charlotte again.
The babies overheard Angelica, and Tommy asks her if she meant what she said about never doing bad or naughty things again. Angelica says to "get real" and splashes the babies with water from her wet hair. The babies walk up to the glass door and see Spike in his doghouse, happily watching the again-functional TV set.
Goofs[]
When Angelica calls Tommy a little bald idiot her tights are purple instead of blue.
Trivia[]
- This is the first time Drew disciplines Angelica on-screen.
- Angelica rightfully has a gut feeling that the police would be on to her actions as one can be reported by the cops as a runaway.
- Angelica was warned not to play in Drew's office, but she was not seen doing that in any of the previous episodes and will never do it again in any subsequent episodes.
- In this episode, Angelica's favorite TV show is Gilligan's Island. She mentions wanting to watch it in a later episode, Season 3's "Angelica's Worst Nightmare".
- This is the first appearance of Angelica's first toy car (in the style of an early '90s BMW). In this episode, she operates it without the use of the key, yet it has a remote to activate or deactivate the anti-theft alarm. In "Angelica's Worst Nightmare", she actually uses an ignition key to start it during her dream.
- Morals:
- Listen to your parents and obey them.
- You can't always have your way all the time, no matter how wealthy you are.
- If your parents do discipline you, it is always out of love, not out of being mean.
- Running away leads nowhere, because anywhere else than your own home is bound to be worse. Running away never fixes things; it only keeps things the same if not worse.
- Don't threaten younger children to get them to do things for you.
- Remember not to shout loudly or use a very loud tone voice in your children’s face, it could scare them or make them cry and feel hurt.
