Characters Mentioned[]

Synopsis[]

When Chuckie decides to take a cue from Spike and "do his business" on the Pickles' backyard tree, Didi catches him and tells him it is not the right way to go. Upon hearing this, the Rugrats feel they have to teach Spike not to go that way as well. But how will Spike respond to wearing diapers or using the potty? - Description from Klasky Csupo

Summary[]

The episode begins with Stu trying to repair the water faucet in the bathroom. The doorbell rings, but as Stu is clumsy at the moment, Didi answers the door instead. Chas is there with Chuckie, as well as a toilet adapter so Chuckie can be switched to the toilet from the clown training potty. Didi promises she and Stu will help with the transition, then takes Chuckie outside where the other three babies plus Spike (1991) are at.

Tommy greets Chuckie, who is acting a bit strange. It turns out Chuckie has to urinate, but doesn't want to because the grown-ups watch, and it makes him uncomfortable. Tommy says Chuckie could go on the tree, like Spike does. Chuckie is unsure at first, but quickly decides to do so...as long as nobody watches. Tommy and the others promise they'll look at a flower instead, which they do (and get Spike to do so as well.) However, Didi happens to see Chuckie pulling down his pants and rushes over, gently scolding Chuckie for trying to use the tree. She carries him off to the bathroom, where Stu and Chas have just put the adapter seat over the regular toilet seat. All three grown-ups give Chuckie encouragement and promise to stay there so he won't be afraid, unaware of Chuckie's discomfort.

A short time later, Didi brings Chuckie back outside, telling him not to worry; they'll try again later. Tommy asks Chuckie if he went, but Chuckie explains that he could not urinate with the grown-ups watching, even though he tried. He's a little upset that it wasn't OK to use the tree, but Tommy insists it used to be fine as he's seen Spike using it and not getting in trouble. Lil suggests the grown-ups changed the rules, and the others conclude that must have been what happened. A few moments later, Spike walks on over to the tree. The babies stop Spike so he won't get in trouble, but Chuckie points out that Spike can't just stop going potty. Tommy agrees, says that they'll just teach Spike a different method, and declares himself to be Spike's daddy. Chuckie says he'll be Spike's other Daddy, and Phil says the twins will be Spike's "Uncle Bill and Aunt Harriet."

Spike is brought up to Tommy's bedroom, where the babies try to powder and diaper Spike. First, they chase him all over the room, but with no success. The babies become puffed out from running all over the place, but aren't sure what to do. Tommy gets an idea, and starts to pet and scratch Spike's belly. Spike lays on his back, allowing Chuckie to apply the powder and the twins to put on the diaper. Spike, however, rips the diaper off and apart, to their disappointment. Lil wonders what to do now, and Chuckie comes up with a solution.

Back outside, the babies bring the clown training potty over to a sleeping Spike and get him situated on it. Chuckie explains that they wait for Spike to go, and then tell him he's a good boy for using the potty. Then, like Tommy's parents did many episodes ago, the four of them wait for Spike to go. Spike eventually wakes up, and just when they think it's going to work, Spike gets up and pees on the tree instead.

Spike is led to the bathroom, as the babies have decided that since Spike is a big-boy dog, he needs to use a big-boy potty. However, Spike won't sit on the toilet when they tell him to sit on the potty. It's decided Spike doesn't know how, and needs someone to show him. All eyes are on Chuckie. Chuckie says he'll only pretend to go potty, and nobody can watch him get on there. Tommy, the twins, and Spike all turn around, allowing Chuckie to climb on and sit. Chuckie tells them they can turn around when he's ready, and then explains to Spike the potty is comfy and much better to use than the tree. However, the dripping faucet causes Chuckie to need to go again, really bad! He doesn't want to be watched, though, so he tells everyone to quickly get out of there. But before the babies can get the door open, Stu opens it from the outside, allowing the others to run out. Seeing Chuckie on the potty, Stu (correctly) thinks that Chuckie is ready to use the potty again. Chuckie, horrified at the idea of being watched, hops down and rushes out the door as well.

Didi is walking inside with the clown potty, wondering why it was in the backyard, when Spike, Tommy, Phil, and Lil dash past, shortly followed by Chuckie. Chuckie is horrified to see the potty missing, as Spike urinates on the tree again as Didi and Stu look on. Tommy says the grown-ups changed the rules again. Chuckie is glad because he needs to go worse then ever, so bad he doesn't even care if they watch. Chuckie walks to the tree, stands next to Spike, and proceeds to urinate on the tree. Tommy watches Chuckie, and thinks that using the tree looks like fun. The twins agree, and the three of them urinate on the tree, too. Didi and Stu are horrified by this sight, and Didi asks Stu to call Lipschitz while the babies are blissfully unaware.

Trivia[]

  • This is Chuckie's second potty training episode. The first one was Season two, Episode two, "Chuckie vs. The Potty".
  • In this episode, the twins say they will be Spike's "Uncle Bill and Aunt Harriet" (it is possible they themselves have an Uncle Bill and Aunt Harriet).
  • This is the second appearance of the old clown potty.
  • The babies try to put a diaper on an animal again in "Babysitting Fluffy". This time, they were trying to put a diaper on a cat, namely Fluffy.
  • A possible reason why Chuckie is uncomfortable about the dripping faucet is that on the day he got potty trained Angelica teased him with the tap in "Chuckie vs. The Potty".

Goofs[]

  • In some scenes, the colors of Phil and Lil's shoes are swapped. Phil's appears pink instead of blue and Lil's appears blue instead of pink.
