Plot[]

The Pickles adults decorate their house and set up a haunted house for the trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. They even dress up in costumes. The babies are confused, but Angelica tells them it's Halloween (or, as she pronounces it, Hollyween"). She brags about getting candy and shows off the treat the adults will pass out that night: a Reptar Bar. She says that not only does it taste good, it turns your tongue green. She takes a bite of a Reptar Bar that she already has, and demonstrates this. The babies are excited, but Angelica says you have to go in the haunted house in order to get one, and informs them they're far too young.

Didi helps Stu, Drew, and Grandpa Lou set up their little haunted house in the backyard, which has Halloween decorations, a funhouse mirror, and other spooky accessories. She's concerned about the "eyeball" grapes and spaghetti "worms" being too scary, but the men insist this is what Halloween is about. Grandpa Lou, who is wearing an extremely ugly monster mask, even says that when he was a kid, he and his brother Sparky went trick-or-treating with real tricks and real ghosts, though the others think it's just another of his exaggerated stories. Didi, it turns out, does feel Tommy and the others are too young, and says they can have the haunted house as long as the babies don't go near it.

Trick-or-treating begins and the babies watch from inside. They witness costumed kids going into the haunted house, and coming out moments later screaming in delight, and holding Reptar Bars. Tommy decides that if he and his friends scream, they'll get Reptar Bars, too. Chuckie is unconvinced, saying that when he screams, he only gets a bottle or a diaper, but Tommy and the others persuade him to try, telling him that everything is different when it's Halloween. They all scream as loudly as they can and are heard by Stu and Didi, who assume that seeing the trick-or-treaters scared them and close the curtains, much to Tommy's disappointment. Chuckie shows irritation: "Huh! All that screaming for nothing!" and Phil and Lil also reply, "Yeah!" Tommy is confused as to why the other kids scream and get Reptar Bars, but they don't. Then he realizes that the other kids were in the haunted house when they screamed and decides that they have to get in the haunted house themselves so they can get Reptar Bars. Chuckie is afraid, but they convince him to come along.

When the adults aren't looking and the haunted house is empty, the babies sneak outside and into the haunted house. Despite what Didi predicted, they aren't very frightened by the fake decorations (Chuckie is, only slightly) and have a little fun with the decorations (Tommy squishing the grape "eyes", Chuckie playing with a funhouse mirror, the twins covering themselves with the "worms"). When a group of trick-or-treaters that includes Angelica (in an angel costume) arrives and are given Reptar Bars, the babies hide to avoid being seen. When Angelica and the older kids enter the haunted house, they witness Phil and Lil's spaghetti-covered reflections in the mirror, Tommy with a sheet over him resembling a ghost, and Grandpa Lou's mask seemingly moving on its own because Chuckie is inside. The trick-or-treaters plus Grandpa Lou are soon scared to death of the haunted house and flee, leaving behind their bags of candy.

The babies come out of hiding and take the bags of candy into the house where they try out the Reptar Bars. Just like Angelica said, they're delicious and turn their tongues green. Outside, Lou insists to Stu and Drew that he and Angelica saw genuine monsters inside their haunted house, while Angelica demands that somebody go in and get her Reptar Bar. Stu and Drew doubt their father because of the exaggerated story he told them earlier while Angelica continues to yell "I WANT MY REPTAR BAR!"

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Halloween themed episode. The second one is "Curse of the Werewuff", and the third is in the All Grown Up! episode "TP+KF".
  • The first three kids to arrive to the haunted house possibly resemble the characters Lock, Jock, and Barrel from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
  • Even though the babies aren't allowed to participate in Halloween in this episode, in "The Trial", it's mentioned that Tommy has a bunny rabbit mask from Halloween.
  • Lou mentions he has a brother named Sparky.
  • The title is a possible reference to the popular 1975 musical/film The Rocky Horror (Picture) Show.
  • Reptar Bars contain chocolate, nuts, caramel, and green food coloring.
  • It's revealed that Angelica is possibly too young to experience the haunted house, according to Didi.
  • Morals:
    • Make sure your Halloween activities are not too scary for the young.
    • Everyone has a fear of something.
    • Spooky stories and spooky movies before bedtime can cause nightmares.
  • Despite being about Halloween this episode aired in January.
  • Although Tommy does not have teeth, he is somehow able to eat a Reptar bar which Angelica states have several hard ingredients and an audible crunch noise is heard when one is eaten.

Goofs[]

  • When Didi is debating letting the babies enter the haunted house, her dress changes from her Halloween costume to her trademark red dress.
  • In the close-up shot when Didi tells Stu the babies must have been scared from seeing the trick-or-treaters outside, the picture randomly shakes up and down.
  • The group of trick-or-treaters Angelica is part of includes three other kids, dressed like the Frankenstein Monster, a mummy and a werewolf. But when Drew is heard off-screen giving them their Reptar bars, he says "One for you, for you, and you Wolfie, and one for the little mummy", as if there were a total of four other kids instead of three.
  • When the babies are seen eating Reptar Bars and show off their green tongues, Chuckie is seen with a full set of top teeth along with his two buck teeth.
  • Although Phil and Lil were facing away from the mirror, their reflection shows them as if they were directly facing it.
  • When Lou is hugging Angelica outside the haunted house, her right pigtail turns grey.
