Elizabeth "Betty" DeVille (born March 21, 1989) is Phil and Lil's single mother. She is very nice, but also tends to speak boisterously and in a strong voice. Though outwardly opposites, she and Didi are very good friends. She comes off as a tough and energetic woman, and fawns over her twins. She loves a good cup of coffee and is always quick with a witty comment. She loves sports, such as football, and always wears a blue headband. She is considered a main character in Nickelodeon's 2021 animated TV series Rugrats.
Description
Betty, in addition to being a single lesbian mother to twins Phil and Lil, also runs her own coffeehouse called Betty's Beans. Betty and Didi have been best friends since college and are deeply supportive of each other's parenting skills and work efforts. Betty loves cracking jokes, hanging out with her friends, and crafting interesting sandwiches. Her teenage niece Gabi and her tía Esperanza both live nearby, which makes it easy to spend time with family outside of their annual Las Posadas celebration. [2]
Betty is loud, energetic, tough, and athletic, but friendly and likable. Unlike the original, Betty isn't married (at least not yet) and also appears to be raising Phil and Lil as a single parent (as Howard hasn't appeared in the reboot as of yet). Betty's mentions having an ex-girlfriend in the reboot's pilot episode and is shown to be dating a woman named Trish in "Mission to the Little").
Her new actress Natalie Morales commented "anyone who watched the original show may have had an inkling Betty was a member of the alphabet mafia" referencing this, leading some to describe this as Betty being "gay", such as Tatiana Tenreiro of AV Club.[3] In addition to being a single mother, Betty has been re-written as being part Latina, and as part of the Carmichaels’ main group of friends.[4]
"Betty's Beans" serves up a wide variety of tea, coffee and pastries. Betty encourages taking photos of her products and tagging them on social media -- she also has a little play area set up for the twins and their friends for when she brings them to the shop.
Looks
Betty's appearance is still similar to her 1991 counterpart's. She has peach skin, brown hair and pink lips. The collar of her shirt is now navy instead of peach, her shirt remains purple while the female symbol has been replaced with a golden Gemini symbol. She now only wears one watch on one of her wrists, her socks are shorted and colored white. She wears dark blue track pants with black cuffing along with black canvas sneakers with red shoelaces.

Trivia
- As revealed in "Tooth or Share", Betty has a fear of public speaking.
- According to Tia Esperanza, Betty once, as a child, stood up in front of the church they went to and announced that she wasn't wearing something. Of course, Tia Esperanza was cut off by Betty before revealing what it was.
- It can be assumed underwear was what Tia Esperanza was likely going to say.
- Betty also mentions that, supposedly because of this incident is why she doesn't do well with public speaking.
- "Great Minds Think Alike" reveals that she has a cousin who is left-handed, and because of this, used to be unable to use can openers.
