Angelica's Birthday is a Season 3 episode of Rugrats. It was directed by Jim Duffy and Norton Virgien.

Plot

Angelica is excited about her 4th birthday, as she's growing up and she thinks she will be able to do whatever she wants. However, Drew tells her growing up involves having responsibilities, like paying a mortgage and tidying your own room. Angelica finds growing up not what she thought it would be. Resolving to avoid responsibilities, she decides to regress to being a baby. Using supplies from her own room, and the babies' diaper bag, she dresses herself in a bonnet, pastel shirt and of course, a diaper.

The babies doubt Angelica's commitment to her new lifestyle, and challenge her to do babyish things, like getting milk solely by crying. After refusing to take off her diaper and wear her birthday dress, she is put into a playpen with the other babies. After realizing the disadvantages of baby life, Angelica escapes the playpen, and joins her party.

Throughout the episode, Charlotte is constantly organizing Angelica's birthday party, in the background and on the phone.

Some of these things are:

  • The caterers
  • A karaoke machine
  • A Russian circus (unable to attend because they got deported)
  • A tent "out back" with farm animals in it. These include:
    • A goat
    • Two sheep
  • Chaz and Howard's clown act
  • Chocolate sculpture
  • Chinese acrobats

Notes

  • The credits theme is different from the usual

  2. Dean from Angelica's In Love

Quotes

Lou: "Take my advice and enjoy the best years of your life while you can! Oh, to think I was at Woodstock! Those pesky kids sure made a racket, though! Scuse' me a sec."
(Lou gets off of Angelica's bed and walks towards the door.)
Angelica: "Where are you going, Grandpa?"
Lou: "Let's just say it's another part of getting old!"

Chuckie: "Can Angelica really do this?"
Tommy: "I don't know, Chuckie, but things will sure be different around here if she's gonna be a baby again."
Lil: "Yeah, if she's a baby, she'll be one of us!"
Phil: "And if she's just one of us, maybe she can't push us around anymore!"
Lil: "Or steal our toys anymore!"
Chuckie: "Or make us wear those frilly panties!"
(Tommy, Phil, and Lil all stare at Chuckie in shock.)
Chuckie: "Um, I don't want to talk about it."

Chuckie: "By the way, Angelica, you can't have any of those little candies, either. They're too dangerous for babies!"
Angelica: "What? Why?"
Tommy: "Well, we might put em' in our nose or something!"
Angelica: Sounds like a few dumb babies have gone and ruined things for everyone! You can't do anything fun! I mean, look at me! I'm sitting here in a diaper, drinking from a bottle!
Chuckie: "It may not look like much to you, Angelica, but it's our world, and it's all we know!"
